Geeplus Provides Solution to Weakened Electromagnets
Beckenham, United Kingdom – Electromagnets used as safety or security devices in fire doors, material handling, cash drawers, key control systems or drugs trolley cabinets for example, have always been considered a ‘fit and forget’ device which will always activate when required.
However, recent tests carried out by electromagnet manufacturer Geeplus, have shown a significant deterioration in performance when the magnets are used in situations where minor damage to the surface of the weakened electromagnet might occur.
The solution is a simple, but effective, hardened coating which Geeplus can apply to existing parts from stock. The reason for the decline in performance is due to accidental damage caused to the surface of the magnet in everyday situations. Bumps, knocks or even general wear can cause the connecting surface of the magnet to be damaged leading to a potential failure when the power is removed.
The efficiency of the magnet is totally dependent on it having a very flat, smooth surface. In this condition, the magnet has a reduced power requirement and high efficiency. A dent or scratch to the surface however, severely impairs the function.
The Geeplus coating actually permeates the surface of the magnet, reducing vulnerability while maintaining a high level of corrosion resistance.
